Quality links for Malaysian and Borneo crafts

We are working on building the necessary contents on crafts and the Malaysian people generally. The Malaysian natives (also referred as 'bumiputra') alone comprised of various ethnics and tribes and they all have their own unique crafts and way of living.

We did found some on blogging sites, flickr and some others which has been in existence for quite awhile but still the contents are rather thin. Previously, several attempts were made to promote Malaysian Batik and Nyonya Kebaya in a large scale. This was primarily done by 'Yayasan Budi Penyayang' through a series of events both locally and internationally. It looks like the effort had died with the death of the late wife of the Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi(as always).

So far, one of the rising star in the Malaysian batik industry is Noor-Affa batik. Moochiku already has some Noor-Affa 'sarongs' for sale soon and we must say that they are something worth to look at. There are good news for those looking to franchise their products as well, especially if you are from the europe and the US region.

Other than batik is 'songket'. Now, this is really expensive and beautiful stuffs, mainly worn during malay wedding ceremonies and official ceremonies of the nation's elites. Bibah songket has some nice pics for you to savour, so go ahead and have a look at them.

Now, im not even gonna start with the Melanau's, Kadazan's, and others that lives in Borneo. Thats not my expertise. Mona will be writing on them later ... but shes busy with moochiku still, hope she will have the time to write something soon .. at least some teaser would be great.

Well ... these are just some thoughts before we put some real contents about our crafts and people in here. So please check us out from time to time. Have a nice holiday :)
